NRD Power Weekend: Day Two

Dubai, UAE 19 November 2016: The F4 UAE Championship powered by Abarth had its opening points scoring race on Friday and then the series got to work in earnest with two more races on Saturday at Dubai Autodrome.

Jonathan Aberdein was good on Friday and simply unstoppable on Saturday.  He took both races and a haul of points for the weekend.  Logan Sargeant gave chase each time but could not hunt Aberdein down.

In contrast, the Radical Middle East Cup had a spirited shakeup from one race to the next.  Romain Lutter cruised in and took home the winner’s trophy on Friday, but on Saturday the 3.56 kilometre National Circuit would not be as kind to the Frenchman.

During Qualifying Ollie Smith nabbed pole with a best lap of 1:23.785, less than a second faster than both Jani Hjerppe and Romain Lutter.

When the race commenced Romain rocketed from third on the grid into lead and he looked to be on course for another victory.  However, Smith meticulously gathered up the frontrunner and soon took control of the race.

The contest was feisty throughout the entire field, with cars trading places on almost every corner.  Ollie Smith managed to break free of the fracas and after 45 minutes of racing he ended up with a comfortable win, 41.852 seconds ahead of Jani Hjerppe.  Romain Lutter trailed in for third place.

The next NRD Power Weekend will be on 9-10 December 2016.  It will feature MRF 2000, Porsche GT3 Cup ME, the NGK Enduro, the UAE Sportbike Championship and the Formula Gulf Academy.
