NGK UAE TCC Preview
The most scrappy section of the touring car field will be the Renault Clio Cup Class powered by Renault Middle East, with eight contenders expected to contest the class on Friday. Defending Clio Cup champion Willie Morrison leads the pack with Peter England and Rahil Taneja giving chase in the championship.
Class One leader Alexandros Annivas, driving his Gulf Petrochem/Mouhritsa Racing Seat Leon Super Copa, will face challenges from two Czech drivers, Marcel Kusin of K & K Racing Team and Petr Kacirek of Duck Racing, each piloting a BMW 130i.
Ricky Coomber, fresh from a pair of Class Two victories and the Airlink International Driver of the Day award from the last round, returns to take the helm of the number 48 Honda Integra by ZRT Motorsport. Jason Lyness of Red Squirrel Racing, behind the wheel of his Toyota TRD86, will be looking to battle Coomber for Class Two honours.
The TCR Cupra of Gulf Petrochem/Mouhritsa Racing, driven by TCR Class leader Costas Papantonis, is the popular favourite to take the overall touring car win. Only his fellow teammate, Alexandros Annivas, has come close to challenging for the top step on the winner’s podium.
