Gulf Radical Cup Wins for Roberts and Hjerpee

Dubai, UAE, 7 December 2019:  Rounds Five and Six of the 2019-2020 Gulf Radical Cup headlined a full day of racing at Dubai Autodrome on Friday (6 December), which included the third round of NGK UAE ProCar Championship and the second round of National Sportsbike Super Series.

British driver Ian Roberts split the day’s Radical Cup spoils with the defending Radical champion from Finland, Jani Hjerpee, with Roberts taking Round Five and Hjerpee storming back to win Round Six.

Newcomer Mohammed Saud Fahad Al Saud of MS7 by WRT surprised Dragon Racing favourites Jim Geddie and Leon Price by clinching both NGK UAE ProCar races in convincing fashion behind the wheel of a powerful Audi R8 LMS Evo.

For anything on two wheels, the AHM Yahama R6 in the hands of Ahmed Al Muyini was an unstoppable force.  The Saudi ace notched up two National Sportsbike Super Series victories overall, solidifying his position as top rider in 600cc Superstock.

Ian Roberts (#7) came out on top of a scrappy battle with the #4 Radical SR3, driven by both Jeff Curtis and James Edmeades, to take the first race of the day.

Curtis and Edmeades topped qualifying with a best lap time of 2:04.673 on the 5.39-kilometre Grand Prix Circuit at Dubai Autodrome, but Roberts snatched the lead and held on to win Race One after a neck-to-neck struggle into the final turn of the last lap left the #4 car spinning into the runoff and lucky to recover for second-place.

Curtis and Edmeades featured again in Race Two, leading the contest until the fourteenth lap, when defending Radical champion Jani Hjerpee (#17) seized the lead after dispatching four cars.  The “Flying Finn” held on for victory, crossing the finish line just 0.677 seconds ahead of Curtis and Edmeades, with Roberts right behind for third.
