Endurance Championship RD1: Preview

Dubai, UAE, 20 February 2018:  Kart racers from around the region and overseas are travelling to Dubai to challenge the first round of the renowned Dubai Kartdrome Endurance Championship, which now celebrates its 14th season.

The first race of the 2018 season will roar into action on Friday (23 February) at noon at Dubai Kartdrome and will run for 12 continuous hours on the Reverse International configuration of the1.2-kilometre outdoor track, with the chequered flag closing the race at midnight.

Top international racers have appeared in previous editions of the championship, including F1 Stars Fernando Alonso and Pedro de la Rosa, who competed in 2017.

Dubai Kartdrome Manager David Bright said, “Once again we prepare for, what has become, one of the great kart endurance championships on the planet.  We’ve have made a few changes to the format this year to keep things fun and fair for all of the competitors.”

Several veteran teams are expected to make a big impact this season, including Bin Drai Karting Team, which is routinely on the podium, but has yet to claim a race win.

Over the last two years Emirates Airlines teams have achieved great success in the Corporate Category, but they have expanded into three competing teams, including Emirates Pro to challenge the Pro Category.

The all-Russian line-up of LD Russia will be looking to add another title to the Nations Cup honours they achieved in 2016.

“I welcome our local teams back as well as those competitors from overseas.  I hope they enjoy the unique atmosphere of Dubai hospitality and the quality of competition racing on this popular and challenging reverse circuit layout that we have put in place for this weekend.”, Bright added.
