Dubai, UAE, 23 February 2018: The opening round of the 2018 Dubai Kartdrome Endurance Championship is now underway and Emirati karting ace Saeed Al Mehairi of Cambridge ME Interiors edged out Bin Drai Karting Team by just 0.058 seconds to grab pole position with a best lap time of 1:12.033 on the Reverse International circuit.
In the last minutes of qualifying it was a back and forth battle between Bin Drai Karting Team and Cambridge ME Interiors, with each team topping the timing screens. Former Batelco Racing driver Saeed Al Mehairi dug deep when it mattered and closed out the session by nabbing pole for his new team.
Veteran team Bin Drai Karting is still in great contention by starting in P2, and newcomers Airmoney of Russia surprised the local teams by seizing third on the grid.
Team Emirates placed sixth, earning the top position in the Corporate category, putting it on the right path to defending its Corporate title.
It appears that the Nations Cup, for drivers of the same nationality, will be a shootout between the Portuguese line-up of Bin Drai Karting Team and two Russian squads, Airmoney and LD Russia.
After one hour Cambridge ME Interiors maintains a narrow lead over another new team, Brn Out, with Bin Drai Karting Team chasing in third. Eleven more hours to go until the chequered flag!
