Batelco Racing sets its sights on Endurance Championship Pro Title
Team Emirates look to take another Corporate win
ZOOM Racing in good position for Nations Cup
Dubai, UAE, 15 December 2017: Batelco Racing has been unstoppable this year, and not even a guest appearance by double F1 World Champion Fernando Alonso can knock the Bahraini racers off course for the fourth and final round of the Dubai Kartdrome Endurance Championship.
Alonso and his all Spanish team, FA Racing, looked to have pole position wrapped up with his best lap time of 1:11.247 topping the timing screens, but in the dying seconds of qualifying Ramez Azzam of Batelco Racing clocked a monster lap of 1:11.198, nabbing pole over Alonso by just 0.049 seconds.
Azzam said, “Starting on pole, so it’s good. We’ve got some decent drivers behind us and Alonso is one of them, so we’ll see what happens.”
“Our strategy…push like always, go for the win.” He added.
Despite just missing out on pole, Alonso was enjoying the atmosphere. He said, “It’s a nice event; we did enjoy it a couple of years ago, and here we are again with some of my friends, and Pedro de la Rosa and some other ex-drivers.”
“Happy to be here again and ready to enjoy.”
Thirty teams will battle it out over the course of 24 hours. The race will finish at noon at Saturday (16 December) and all three 2017 championship titles, Pro, Corporate and Nations Cup, will be decided.
