2018 SWS World Finals: Preview

Dubai, UAE, 12 June 2018:  Dubai Kartdrome Manager, David Bright, will lead a contingent of Dubai racers to challenge the top leisure kart drivers from around the globe at the Sodi World Series (SWS) 2018 World Finals (14-16 June) at Lignano, Italy.

Ahead of preparations Bright said, “All of our drivers have worked really hard over the year to be able to qualify for the 2018 SWS World Finals.  It is amazing to have such a great team.  We are the only group to have a father and son duo competing, as well as two female drivers.”

The 2018 edition of the SWS World Finals will bring together around 280 drivers from 84 circuits and 35 different countries competing in three categories: Junior Cup, Sprint Cup and Endurance Cup.  The three-day race event will take place at Circuito Internazionale Venezia Giulia in Lignano, a kart circuit located near Venice, Italy.

Representing Dubai Kartdrome for the Senior Cup will be Ekaterina Kazakova, Karim Al Azhari, Markus Thomas, Abigail Birch, Allan Khoury, Maz Nawaz, Hussain Umid Ali and Anjum Shaikh.

Kyle Kumaran, Patrick Debattista, Alexander Renner and Enzo Al Azhari will compete for the Junior Cup title and Pedja Jakovljevic, Durate Lopes, Andre Caido and Miguel Neto of Bin Drai Karting will take on the 12-hour team endurance race in a bid for the Endurance Cup.

This year’s group will be unique to past UAE challengers.  The Al Azhari family looks to make history with father Karim and son Enzo both competing in the finals.  In addition, Ekaterina Kazakova and Abigail Birch come from a growing segment of women drivers making a big impact in the world of motorsport and both will be keen to impress in Italy.

“Out of all the years I’ve lead a team to the SWS World Finals, this year I am looking forward to it the most.  Not only do we have excellent chances to take home silverware in all three categories, but with the racing taking place just outside of Venice—I can’t think of a better setting for the event.  Our racers from Dubai are ready to take on the best in the world.”
