Dubai Bambino Cup: RD6

Dubai, UAE, 15 April 2018:  In his debut race appearance, newcomer Zacharee Grad surprised the regulars on Saturday (14 April) at Dubai Kartdrome by snatching an unlikely victory at the sixth and final round of the 2017-2018 Dubai Bambino Cup Championship, powered by IAME.  However, the spotlight was all on Zachary Stimpson, who earned enough points on the day to be crowned Bambino Cup champion.

Coming into Round Six, Stimpson was the favourite to take the day and win it all in the first season of the Dubai Bambino Cup, but rookie driver Grad arrived that morning and upset the usual order.

In what became “the battle of Zachs”, Zacharee Grad and Zachary Stimpson challenged each other for the lead throughout the four time-trials.

Grad topped heats one and four, and Stimpson was the best in heats two and three, but it was Zacharee Grad’s blistering lap time of 1:14.144 in heat four that was fastest of the day and edged Grad over Stimpson for the round.

Despite the narrow Round Six loss, Zachary Stimpson had everything to smile about, as he had done enough on the day to secure the 2017-2018 Dubai Bambino Cup Championship.

Stimpson finished the season with 190 points total to claim the title, well clear of Kareem Azzi in second place with 145 points.  Anthony Joe Khalil took third place in the championship on 137 points.

Dubai Kartdrome Manager David Bright said, “Congratulations to Zachary Stimpson for having another great drive and becoming the first champion of the Dubai Bambino Cup.”

“There’s been exciting contests throughout the season, and the final round of the Dubai Bambino Cup was no exception; newcomer Zacharee Grad really challenged the veteran drivers today.  Swapping the IAME engines midway through the event really levels the playing field and highlights driver skill.”

Bright added, “Grad has a bright future in motorsport.  He only started karting a few weeks ago and today was his first time ever in a Bambino event.  For him to win on his debut is something special, especially against Simpson who is the number one rated Bambino driver in the country.”

“Also Kareem, Anthony, Max and Mohammed; all of the kids did a fantastic job today and throughout the championship.  It was nice to watch them improve each round.  I look forward to welcoming everyone back next season!”
