Suzuki Swift Cup launched in UAE
Zengo Team Motorsport announced the launch of the Suzuki Swift Cup – the UAE’s first “Arrive & Drive” one-make race car series. Following a short press conference at the Dubai Autodrome, those present were then invited to drive one of the nippy race prepared Suzuki Swifts around the track and experience the car firsthand.
“Our aim is to grow motorsport further in the UAE by making it more accessible,” said Sean Stevens, representative of Zengo Team Motorsport and series promoter. “To achieve this you need to have the right combination of regulations, vehicle and race format – we believe we have this with Suzuki Swift Cup.”
Stevens then went onto explain how this recipe comes together. “It’s simple really; the cost of participation is the lowest in the region. The regulations are structured to ensure that the focus is on driver skill and talent not engineering or set up knowledge. Finally, for those that don’t have a race license, we offer a course in conjunction with the Dubai Autodrome to get a novice driver through the test and on the grid.”
It’s Zengo Team Motorsports’ philosophy that the “Arrive & Drive” - a platform that has proved so successful in Europe, is the right model for driving the sport in the Middle East. “The hosting of Formula One in the region has dramatically raised interest in people wanting to go motor racing, but we feel many see taking part a daunting process” says Stevens. The Suzuki Swift Cup is designed to solve this problem, guiding the driver through the license process and race day, taking care of the paperwork on his behalf. The driver simply arrives, races, and leaves with the vehicles being looked after by Zengo Team Motorsports mechanics and coordinators. “I want to see drivers from all communities taking part in our series.”Adds Stevens.
The 2010 Suzuki Swift Cup will run over ten races (two per race meeting) between January and April 2010, taking place at the Dubai Autodrome and Abu Dhabi’s new Formula One track - Yas Marina Circuit. For more information go to www.suzukicup.ae or write to info@suzukicup.ae.
