Dubai Autodrome hosts the second UAE National Race Day Series of the 2011/2012 season this Friday, 21 October 2011, on the National Circuit configuration featuring five races on the day: two sprint races for Total UAE Touring cars, two sprint races for MotorCity UAE Sportbikes and a single 60 minutes mini-enduro style race for the NGK UAE GT cars.
Race day will include the inaugural round of the NGK UAE GT Championship, where the world’s top car manufactures represented across three classes will battle it out for top honours, including: Ferrari, Corvette, Porsche, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, and Lotus, to name some – with a new title sponsor on board.
Dubai Autodrome Chairman Ali Fardan Al Fardan spoke ahead of the second race day, “I take this opportunity to welcome NGK Spark Plugs as title sponsor of the UAE GT Championship. The company has an impressive history, deeply involved in motorsport where they have won just about every motor racing championship – on world, national and club level – including Formula 1. This is a big boost for local motorsport”
NGK Middle East Marketing Manager Muhammad Iqbal said, “We are delighted to be part of UAE Motorsport and the UAE GT Championship. We have been involved in motorsport for over 70 years and have won over 250 F1 races; to be part of the growth of local UAE Motorsport gives us great pleasure and we are very excited for the new season.”
Big names in the driving seats include former UAE champion Bassam Kronfli who will be sharing a Corvette with Raed Hassan, endurance racing ace Fabien Giroix will share the Gulf Racing Lamborghini with Frederic Fatien, Rob Barff and Leon Price in the AUH Motorsports Ferrari – the trio of cars set to do battle in the GTA class.
In the GTB class Ibrahim Saloum and Cabell Fisher are familiar names who will be campaigning in a Porsche 911 GTR and will be challenged by a host of other Porsches from the Walter Lechner stable.
The GTC class is again expected to be a tight contest with local heroes Sheikh Hasher Al Maktoum and Saeed Al Mehairi sharing an Aston Martin, up against fellow Emirati pairing of Khaild Bin Hadher and Mohammed Al Owais in the Emirates Racing Team Lotus Exige.
Qualifying will take place at 10.40am with the one hour race set to be flagged off at 14.40pm.
Entrance on the day is free to all, with access to the paddock and main grandstand, giving race fans unprecedented access to drivers, teams and cars.
