International Motorsport at Dubai Autodrome
Dubai Autodrome started to host international motorsport events shortly after the circuit was complete in 2004. Since then a number of illustrious events have taken place at the venue including rounds of the: FIA GT Championship, World Touring Car Championship, A1GP, World Series by Renault, Toyo Tires 24 Hours Endurance Series and the Grand Racing weekend featuring Speedcar Series and GP2 Asia Series. Some of the world’s most famous drivers have driven competitively or visited the circuit including the likes of Michael Schumacher, Jacques Villeneuve, Kimi Raikkonen, Johnny Herbert, Jean Alesi to name just a few.
Grand Racing
Dubai Autodrome hosts annual editions of the Grand Racing concept which encompasses Speedcar Series and GP2 Asia Series on an action packed weekend.
Speedcar is hyped as “Born in Dubai. Built for Speed” and feature legendary former Formula One drivers and established Sportscar and Touring Car stars in action against a host of up and coming youngsters including the UAE’s very own Sheikh Hasher Al Maktoum behind the wheel of monster V8, 620 horse power purpose built stock cars. Each time the "Boys Come Back To Town" race fans can expect a mouth watering display of no holds barred racing.
GP2 Asia is the premier single seater category on the continent. Drivers in this series have their eyes firmly focused on a single goal: making it into Formula One. A fantasy? Definitely not if you consider that the current crop of young guns plying their trade in Formula One who graduated from GP2 Series. These include the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg, Adrian Sutil, Heikki Kovalainen and the list goes on. The next generation of superstars contest the GP2 Asia series at Dubai Autodrome annually.
Off-track activities on Grand Racing weekend is what makes the event "Grand" this includes exotic car shows, entertainers, food & beverages, VIP hospitality, big prizes, fun events for children and families. The Grand Racing package delivers an action packed race weekend and a must see (and be seen) event in Dubai for sports fans.
FIA GT3 European Championship
The FIA GT Championship has been visiting Dubai Autodrome since international racing started at the circuit in 2004 of which the FIA GT3 European Championship has been an end of the year attraction at the circuit. Large fields with some of the world’s most desirable machinery including: Maserati, Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin to name a few doing battle in two one hour sprint races.
Toyo Tires 24 Hours of Dubai
The Toyo Tyres 24 Hour of Dubai endurance race has become a mainstay of the international motorsport calendar and is the first major racing event of any given year. The Dubai Autodrome round attracts a huge entry of teams and drivers from all corners of the globe including a number of teams from the UAE. Huge fields makes it one of the biggest, events of it’s kind – in line with the endurance classics staged at Le Mans, Daytona and Spa. Teams from across the world descend on Dubai for the three day extravaganza with the growing number of participants confirms the popularity of this event. The line-up includes marques such as Porsche, BMW, Ford Seat, Renault, Ferrari, Volkswagen and Audi. With each team traveling to the city with an average of 15 support crew and team members, the event is set to host over 1500 team personnel. Traditionally at 2pm on Friday - in early January - the green flag drops and the massive field roars away from the Dubai Autodrome grid thus beginning the battle for supremacy and an adventure for teams that will go on non-stop for the next 24 hours.
