Steel titans clash as MotorCity GT 500 sets pace on Day One

Dubai, UAE, November 17th, 2006: Ferrari 550 Maranello driver, Frederic Makowiecki toped the qualifying session yesterday at the Final Race of the 10th FIA GT Championship Round of the MotorCity GT 500. The run guarantees the larbre Competition team the lead starting spot for tomorrow's race that is expected to go all the way down to the rubber.

The day began with the championship teams and crews gearing themselves up for the exhilaration ahead. Tiny details gained mega importance as drivers meandered from end to end of the paddocks getting to know their fellow racers preparations, and at 9:15am the sound of mechanical thunder filled the air as the 90-minute practice session kicked off the Aston Martin driver, Andrea Piccini headed the first practice session.

The second qualifying session was even more exciting as Dubai Autodrome Grand stand was packed with sports enthusiasts and the session was headed by another Aston Martin driver Jean Dennis Deletraz (1:56.949) with a gap of 0.037 seconds over hezemans. The Third position went to Philip Peter.

Overall, it’s an interesting spread of the lap times. Whether it is a true reflection of what we can expect at the race remains to be seen.

The track also hosted the MotorCity trophy race for Motorworks GTI Cup Cars which and the UAE National Superstock Bikes race. There were plenty of on-track entertainment including the Bartercard Gulf Radical Cup demonstration laps, Dubai Autodrome Race & Drive School Single Seaters and drift demonstration, Red Bull motorcycle stunt display on start/finish straight, FIA GT drivers' parade in classic cars as well as track parades for Porsche, Corvette, Harley Davidson and Lowriders (Modified Cars). VIP guests were also allowed to visit the pit and they could be seen chatting with the drivers and peering into the steel machines of power.

Tomorrow, Saturday the 18th of November, at 2:30 pm, the Dubai Autodrome will turn into an exciting coliseum, as the gladiators in their steel chariots get ready to battle for the ultimate prize. Can you FACE IT?

Hasher Al Maktoum wins the MotorCity Cup for Motorworks GTI race

The two drivers of the HSBC Racing Academy, held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, won the first two positions in the GTI race, support races for the FIA GT.

Sheikh Hasher started from pole and remained in first position for the whole race. In 2nd place his colleague from the Academy Faysal Al Redha finished in 2nd position out performing the GTI drivers.

“I have gained a great experience from the HSBC Racing Academy in Dubai and the la Filiere and the Formula Campus in France which I am very proud off, therefore I was able to put in use all my training during the race.” Said Sheikh Hasher Al Maktoum.
